Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide, often called "laughing gas," is a proven and reliable sedative that you inhale through a small nasal mask to help you feel at ease. Blended with oxygen, this sedation method lets you continue breathing naturally, and its calming effects typically set in within just a few minutes. You might notice a sense of lightness, gentle tingling in your extremities, or a pleasant heaviness in your limbs. The overall result is a soothing sense of relaxation throughout your procedure. Once the mask is taken away, the effects dissipate rapidly, allowing you to recover quickly. Speak with your endodontist to find out if nitrous oxide is the right choice for your visit.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Conscious oral sedation offers a mild alternative that keeps you awake yet deeply relaxed during your endodontic treatment. For individuals who feel uneasy about dental procedures, this form of sedation can significantly reduce nervousness. Your endodontist will pair the oral sedative with a local anesthetic to ensure you experience minimal to no discomfort throughout the appointment. Please arrange for a companion to bring you to our office and drive you home after your procedure is complete.
IV Sedation Options
IV sedation allows patients to enter a sleep-like state during their endodontic procedure through the administration of intravenous medications. Patients undergoing surgical procedures, those with significant dental anxiety, or individuals with special needs may find IV sedation particularly beneficial. Your endodontist at Shore Endodontics will review the advantages of IV sedation and help you decide whether this deeper level of comfort is the best fit for your treatment.
